What the Calculator Does

  • 📦 Maximum charge weight for your furnace dimensions and rated power
  • Minimum soak time per AMS 2750 and CQI-9 requirements
  • 🌡 Heat-up time estimate based on thermal mass and furnace kW rating
  • 📐 Work zone utilisation — load positions and spacing
  • Specific energy consumption kWh/tonne for charge comparison

Supported Furnace Types

  • 🔲 Batch pit furnaces, box furnaces, bell furnaces
  • 🔵 Vacuum furnaces (graphite and molybdenum hot zones)
  • Continuous pusher, roller hearth, and mesh belt furnaces
  • 🧪 Salt bath furnaces and fluidised bed systems
  • 🔔 Bell annealing furnaces and cover annealing lines

Why Furnace Load Calculation Matters

Overloading a heat treatment furnace is one of the most common causes of process failures. Excessive charge weight increases thermal mass, extends heat-up time, and can prevent the load reaching temperature within the soak period — leading to under-hardened parts, failed TUS surveys, and non-conformances against AMS 2750, CQI-9, or Nadcap requirements.

Conversely, running furnaces significantly under-loaded wastes energy and reduces throughput efficiency. The optimal load balances thermal uniformity, energy consumption, and production volume.

Our furnace load calculator is used by heat treatment engineers across the UK and Europe for daily production planning, new furnace commissioning, and compliance documentation.
