Vacuum Hot Zones

We specialise in the reline and refurbishment of vacuum furnace hot zones, working with both graphite and all-metal (molybdenum) constructions. Our team has extensive experience with hot zones from all major manufacturers, including Ipsen, ALD, Schmetz, Seco/Warwick, and BMI. Whether your hot zone requires a full reline or targeted repairs, we deliver work to the highest standards.

Graphite hot zones are rebuilt with new graphite felt insulation, graphite heating elements, and structural components. For all-metal hot zones, we replace molybdenum heating elements, radiation shields, and support structures. Every rebuild includes careful dimensional checks, element resistance verification, and a thorough vacuum leak test to confirm system integrity before handover.

We also provide comprehensive vacuum system servicing, including diffusion pump rebuilds, mechanical pump overhauls, leak rate testing, and vacuum calibration. Our work supports AMS 2750 compliance for aerospace and defence heat treatment facilities, and we can assist with furnace classification documentation and temperature uniformity surveys following hot zone work.

Gas Services

All of our gas work is carried out by Gas Safe registered engineers with specific experience in industrial and commercial heating systems. We install, commission, and service gas-fired burner systems from all major manufacturers including Eclipse, Maxon, Dunphy, Hotwork, and Noxmat. Our engineers hold current IGEM qualifications and understand the particular demands of gas safety in industrial heat treatment environments.

We provide complete gas train servicing, including pressure switch testing, solenoid valve proving, flame supervision checks, and tightness testing to IGEM UP/2 and UP/4 standards. Combustion analysis using calibrated flue gas analysers allows us to optimise burner performance for efficiency and emissions compliance. We also carry out gas leak surveys using specialist detection equipment and can remediate pipework or fittings as required.

For new installations, we design and install gas supply pipework, meter assemblies, gas trains, and burner management systems. Every installation is tested, commissioned, and documented in accordance with current IGEM standards, and we provide all certification required by your insurer and the Health and Safety Executive.

Fabrication

Our workshop is equipped for general steel fabrication and specialist high-temperature metalwork. We fabricate components for furnace and oven applications including internal fixtures, trays, baskets, retorts, muffles, fan housings, ductwork, guards, and structural steelwork. Whether you need a single replacement part or a batch of bespoke fabrications, we produce work to a high standard with full material traceability.

We work in mild steel, stainless steel (304, 316, 310, 321), and specialist high-temperature alloys such as Inconel and Nimonic when the application demands it. Our welders are experienced in MIG, TIG, and manual metal arc (stick) welding, and we can work from your drawings or produce our own using AutoCAD from a site survey or sample component.

Fabrication work can be completed in our workshop for collection or delivery, or our fitters can install on site. We understand the tolerances and material requirements of furnace internals and will advise on the most suitable grade and construction method for your specific operating conditions.

Project Management

We deliver complete engineering projects from initial concept through to commissioning and handover. Our project management approach is built on decades of practical experience in the heat treatment industry, which means we understand the technical challenges and can anticipate problems before they cause delays. Whether the project is a simple control system upgrade or a full furnace rebuild, we apply the same rigorous methodology.

We begin with a thorough technical assessment of your requirements, producing a clear specification that defines scope, budget, and programme. We manage procurement and subcontractor coordination, ensuring all materials and services are sourced to the required standard and delivered on time. On site, our team supervises installation work, managing contractors and maintaining safety standards throughout.

Every project concludes with a full commissioning programme, operator training where required, and comprehensive handover documentation including as-built drawings, test certificates, and operating procedures. We manage budgets transparently and communicate progress regularly, so you always know where your project stands.

Pyrometry & TUS

Temperature Uniformity Surveys (TUS) are a critical requirement for aerospace, automotive, and defence heat treatment operations. We carry out TUS work to AMS 2750 and CQI-9 standards using calibrated equipment and documented procedures. Our surveys provide the data you need to classify your furnaces and demonstrate compliance to your customers, auditors, and accreditation bodies including Nadcap.

In addition to TUS, we perform System Accuracy Tests (SAT) to verify the accuracy of your temperature measurement chain from thermocouple through to controller and recorder. We assess instrumentation types, verify calibration status, and identify any non-conformances that could affect your furnace classification. Thermocouple calibration is performed using traceable reference standards.

Our pyrometry reports are clear, thorough, and formatted to meet the documentation requirements of AMS 2750 and CQI-9 audits. We can advise on furnace classification, survey frequency, thermocouple types, and any corrective actions required to achieve or maintain compliance. For Nadcap-accredited facilities, we understand the specific requirements and can support you through the audit process.

Engineering Solutions

When your equipment underperforms or fails repeatedly, our engineers carry out thorough technical assessments to identify the root cause. We go beyond symptoms to understand the underlying engineering problem, whether it is a design limitation, a materials issue, a control system fault, or an operational factor. The result is a clear, costed proposal for an engineered solution that addresses the problem permanently.

Control system upgrades are a common requirement as equipment ages and original controllers become obsolete. We design and install modern PLC and HMI-based control systems, integrating temperature control, atmosphere management, safety interlocks, and data logging into a single platform. Upgrades can be phased to minimise downtime, and we provide full operator training and documentation.

Energy efficiency improvements deliver measurable cost savings and support environmental compliance. We assess insulation condition, burner efficiency, control strategy, and process scheduling to identify opportunities for reduction in energy consumption. Refractory relining and furnace rebuilds restore thermal performance and extend equipment life, and we manage these projects from survey through to recommissioning.
